How to prepare your research proposal - UTS: Engineering courses

To prepare a research proposal you need to provide the information detailed below:

  • Title:
  • Research - area of interest:
  • Track record: (In one paragraph describe why you are the best person to carry out this research)
  • Research details:
    1. Introduction
      • 1.1. General
      • 1.2. Background
    2. Aims and objectives
    3. Project significance
      Provide details of research that has already been carried out in your area of interest and a short literature review.
    4. Research method
      Outline how you propose to undertake your research, you may want to include the following stages:
      • literature review
      • experimental investigation
      • modelling
      • data validation, and
      • thesis write up.
      Note: you will need to be familiar with different methods for both experiments and modelling.
      You may want to finalise this with your supervisor once you have been admitted, if this is the case, state details clearly.
    5. Resources required
      Include justification for required resources.

    6. Time schedule
    7. Risk assessment and contingency plan
    8. Ethical considerations (if required)
    9. References
      List all sources of literature you referred to while preparing your proposal.
